Good afternoon from sunny Florida. As the title indicates I am currently having some difficulties using TechTool 9.6.1 with MacOS 10.12.6. I have been using this combo with no problems or glitches until now.
The issues just started a few days ago when I had to switch to a new hard drive. My first attempt was using TechTool to clone a new drive via the eDrive. That wouldn't work as the destination drive was not available. I then switched to a Protogo via USB. That worked fine with no issues. Now for the current issues:Number 1.
I needed to delete the eDrive from my old drive to install the new eDrive. Each time I hit the final button, TechTool would just quit without doing anything else. I would get a dialog box asking to send the report to Apple, etc. So bottom line I can't delete the eDrive. Originally I just pulled the old drive with the eDrive installed but the option to create a new one was not available. That I why I was trying to delete the old one first.Number 2.
In TechTool, I can't access the tools function. The tests work as well as reviewing reports, but clicking the tools button does nothing. I then removed TechTool and all files/components. I went to my Micromat account and downloaded the installer.
After entering my serial number again and launching the program, I got the same results. No tools and suddenly quitting while trying to delete the old eDrive.I am confident there is a simple fix or something I overlooked as the program has been working great with no glitches until now. Any hints or directions would be greatly appreciated as I am kind of stumped at the moment. Thanks for your clear and detailed report. You should be able to remove the eDrive using Disk Utility. Just in case the reason that TechTool Pro is not able to remove the eDrive is that some system software code used by both Disk Utility and TechTool Pro to work on the partition map is damaged in RAM, I suggested you perform a proper shutdown, wait a few minutes, and then reboot. A simple restart re-uses some system software code, so that may not help.Since you have already done a clean reinstallation of TechTool Pro, and the program is still not working properly, please send a message toThis email address is being protected from spambots.

Thanks for your cooperation. It is also worth checking the partition map of the device containing the eDrive volume.Since the Tools in TechTool Pro are not at the moment working for you, you should do this using Disk Utility.Select the device containing the eDrive, click the First Aid button, and use the disclosure triangle to see the details. More recent versions of the macOS check the partition map of the device, then the disk directory of the first volume on the device.
A screen capture is below. I want to thank you for quickly responding with information. I tried several other ideas without any success. The situation seems very frustrating and mysterious. During one of the trials I used an installer for TechTool 9.5.3 and found that it worked perfectly.
I was able to access the 'Tools' and create a new eDrive without any problems. The only problem was finding my old serial number which I found in my account.I do like a challenge and it's fun to solve complex puzzles, so I am not giving up. I still need TechTool 9.6.1 for my drives with High Sierra 10.13 though.
There have been several reports of this problem with the inability to switch to the Tools. Please try reinstalling the program by running the installer, which is in your Available Downloads, at the bottom of your My Account page, linked above. If simply running the installer does not work, please use the Customize button in the installer to uninstall the program. That approach removes every file related to TechTool Pro, except the installer itself. Then reinstall the program by running the installer.
You will need to re-enter your serial number, and reconfigure the features in the TechTool Protection system preferences pane. I suggest you make a screen capture of how the email alerts are configured, to make it easier to re-enter the data.If neither of these suggestions works, please send a message toThis email address is being protected from spambots. You will receive a reply by email, and may be asked to send in some more information, such as an Apple System information report, and some log files.
You may also be asked to test a beta build of the program. Thanks for your cooperation. So far the only consistent problem I have with the new Techtool Pro. Is that it will not OPTIMIZE the start up hard drive that my OS is working on (yup. All the latest gear).Everything else works on TTP 9 in the program such as the Diagnostic suite. And the Work Around that I have found so that I can use the Mac OS 10.13.3 since the older versions are not supported on the internet web sties. Is to use an External Hard Drive on the thunderbolt line to have a bootable start up Mac OS (I use Carbon Copy Cloner for that 'save my bacon' function). Then I use the OLDER version of TTP as I refuse to update that hard drive until TTP is fixed.Micromat tells me NOT to use the older version of TTP on the new Mac OS.
But it works this way on the face of it.The PROBLEM SOLUTIONS to keep things humming along are several fold.1) check for virus. Macintosh is getting infected more often now that Steve Jobs has died and the gay guys have taken over Apple with such a poor job they are doing of it. Bitdefender is FREE and it gets the job done. At the Apple App Store.2) Zap the PRAM with any new download to the hard drive (rebuilding the Desktop with TTP is nice to do but I have never run across any corruption it can detect). Hold down 4 keys with a startup (reboot) of the OS (Command+option+P+R) and wait for the harmonic cord to strike with the screen going gray. Then the computer will make the screen go black.
Another harmonic cord with gray screen. Release the keys. And you have Zap the PRAM. (Reset the startup Parameters).3) You might have an OS corruption that is effecting the TTP program. Cold start the Mac. With two keys down (Command + R ) and a Recovery Screen will start up leaving you with 4 options.
You can use Apple Disk Utility (pretty useless) or install your back up. One other option. And then the last one is Download another Apple OS that fits your Macintosh.Apple will check your system. Make sure they can give you the right one.
Your Macintosh will do the rest. It takes some time depending on the speed of your internet. An hour is usual. After it restarts and installs the download OS.
Then if it is corrupted. All you problems are solved. Those are the fixes I have had to employ to keep my Desktop 21 inch flat screen going.Micromat has a problem with TTP since the new update they sold about 6 months ago. They have replicated the problem in their Lab.Still have not fixed it. The problem I have outlined in the above.Seems they have other problems as well.Maybe Apple gave them a bad script. They held off for the longest time.Apple. Is now destroying their products with software corruption once they get to be 2 years old.
They have admitted to in the public press.Of course they are sorry. Still they go at it.It is far cheaper to own a PC/Android that is a headache to operate. No more Apple products for me.sumbuddie wear blind sea.
Optimization requires starting up from a bootable volume that has TechTool Pro 9.6.1 installed on it and is on a device other than the one that contains the volume to be optimized. This change was made necessary by changes Apple made to the system software.I trust that you are not kidding. The TTP 9.6.1 I have will not do a total optimization to the 'other device' that is on the thunderbolt line (external hard drive) which has the bootable Mac OS on it. All other TTP Tools do work on the external hard drive.I can Carbon Copy Clone the Mac OS 10.13.3 with the new TTP 9.6.1 over to the other device (external hard drive) and see if it works. If it doesn't I am really really messed up with the software. No way to fix it and turn back the clock.
Other then get another external hard drive as safe keeping. So with Apple computers if you want them to work. You MUST have another apple computer in target disk mode.
Or an external hard drive. If you want them to work after 3 days.Wow.
Just that little software tweak. And they get million of Dollars in sales and new buyers have to pay more money any way. With stuff they will destroy in two years any way.sweet!!!sumbuddie wear blind sea. TTP works pretty good. Not perfect like before. Just pretty good now.I Carbon Copy Cloned the start up hard drive with the OS 10.13.3 and using the new TTP 9.6.1 and the program optimize tool shows 'Complete' optimization of the startup hard drive will I am on the external LaCie hard drive off the thunderbolt.However.
When using it the 'other' direction. Where I am on the iMac startup drive. And want to optimized the external hard drive (LaCIe). Then TTP reports the optimization as 'Incomplete'. I tried to attach screen shots to show proof of this observation that I am reporting to you.However.
The web site is not working for that purpose with me on the face of it. Hopefully they screen shots make it across the internet to you.My warmest regards.Alan. Only one screen capture usually comes through per posting, and in your case, the text in the screen capture is too hard to read after it has been processed for the forums. Please send a message toThis email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., including a link to this thread, and attach the screen captures to it. You will receive a reply by email. Thank you. There are some files that cannot be optimized, because they are in use, or because of unusual permissions.
Performing a file optimization first, and then a volume optimization, usually solves the problem, because the volume optimization unmounts the volume. An unmounted volume does not have open files.
The Screen capture just shows by evidence that I am using the latest OS and using the current TTP.the ODD issue. As I hope I noted in the prior posting is.The optimize tool will do a complete OS hard drive job to the start up disk when I am on the 'other' device.in the reverse.when I am on the start up disk. Seeking to optimize the 'other device' which is purported to be an exact Carbon Copy Cone boo able OS. The TTP will not do it.(in the past TTP would do it and successfully optimize both hard drives (external and internal) - but software changes and Apple has requirements we must meet)None the less.
Both hard drives work. Both startup. I have my Bacon Saved.So. I am good.My very very warmest regards.Alan.
Two Whom it May Concern. I’m using TechTool Pro 9 to repair a partition on an external HDD, it’s approx 4GB, and the mac pro desktop computer wants to initialise it, however there’s about 2TB of data I need from it. It’s only at the first step “Verifying the partition map” through TechTool - which has taken over 3.5hours now. Is it safe to say that TechTool cannot repair this? And take the HDD to a specialist for repair?
OR, just keep the computer on for a few more hours to see if it changes the status? You might already know about Carbon Copy Cloner (It is Macintosh code). It is from Bombitch Software and it has saved my bacon many many times. What CCC does.
Is makes a 'Mirror' of your start up OS and hard drive. On another hard drive some where in your USB or Thunderbolt plug in system that you can boot from.It needs updates of your existing OS that you are operating from so it stays current.
But it is all there and well protected as a complete start up OS and storage of all your work and operating software.Like Techtool Pro. It is one of the utilities I pay for and keep updating. It is that useful.sumbuddie wear blind sea.
